I have been working for Warren County for 27 years, and am currently in the Data Processing Department as an administrative assistant. I am eligible for retirement in 2008, which I plan to do. Since my parents' deaths, I've lived in their old home place with my dog, Katie. Actually, Katie was my husband's dog, but she fell in love with me the first time we met, and now she sticks to me like glue! My husband, Al, and I were only married for two years and one month. He got lung cancer and died in October 2005. Although he was quite a bit older, he was young at heart; and I wouldn't take anything for the time we had together. When I got the letter announcing our 35th High School Reunion, I just sat and cried - I would have so loved for us to go to the reunion together.
I may not be successful in terms of what the world calls successful, but I'm happy! I lead a Christian life, and I consider myself truly blessed.

Hi Darlene, Your "Short Story" touched me so much. I can imagine how you feel,I have been married to my best friend for 33 yrs this month. He retired this year & now we work together (for Coldwell Banker Real Estate)all day & I just love it. We too, are Christians which is what has held us together in the hard times. We've had quite a few. I can't wait to see you at the reunion. I've enjoyed all your memories,I am sad that I don't remember more things I really believe it's because I had a lot of instability in early childhood & have chosen few things to remember.Whatever! Well, keep filling us in on those stories. I think you are very successful! Most people are far from Happy! If we succeed here & miss heaven what have we gained??God Bless, Carol

Hi, Darlene I was very glad when I saw your name on the list that you and Emily ware coming to the reunion. I wanted to say I was sorry to hear about your husband. I did hear about it from my sister-in-law, Jan, about a month after he passed away. ( I think that was along the time we started planning the reunion.) I meet him a few times, You both looked very happy! Looking forward to seeing you in June, if not before!

Dearest Darlene,
You and Emily were always two special friends to me. I'll never forget our fun conversations on the playground where we were all talking at the same time, when there was so much to share and then bursting into laughter. We always had so much to say to each other. In the 8th grade, I had been voted in as Class Treasurer. I served over half the year, when a couple of the boys said I was over-charging them on dues. I was then impeached and you were voted into my place. It hurt me so deeply. I did not understand why the boys thought this. I offered you my homemade graphs, which you went over, and discovered that I had put too many spaces on the second page, which in turn cleared my name. You got to the bottom of it, because you believed in me...did I ever thank you for that? Emily shared with me on the school bus one day, that her greatest fear was losing an eye. Now I wasn't trying to be mean, but when she said it, it struck me so funny, that we both howled!!! I could just see her with an eyepatch..OH!! LORD, she doesn't have an eye patch does she? HA HA HA As far as success goes, who's to say what success is, but God? The world would never consider me a success, but I have been married 34 years, to Gil, the love of my life. We've raised three beautiful children, Hollie, Matthew, and Shellie. We have two delightful grandchildren, Jessica and Camden, a daughter-in-law, Jess and a son-in-law, Bill, whom we cherish. We foster-parented four of their friends for different periods of time and I was grateful to be able to do this because of my own childhood being hard. We have tried to keep an open door to anyone who was hurting. We're getting to travel the country together with their jobs...(Gil and the kids work together as a management team). I know what it is to have abundance and I know what it is to live simply. And I have learned that the only things that matter are family and friends, and knowing who you are in Jesus Christ, first and foremost. I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Knowing you, I am sure he was wonderful. I can't help but break with the thought of it. My husband has been very ill for three years, and this last year, I genuinely thought I might lose him. The kids and I understand the fear that can grip you over a love-one. Thankfully, I believe he is on the slow road to recovery and we are planning for him to be at the reunion with me. I can't wait for you to meet him, I feel like I am coming home to my cousins.
Love and Prayers, Bonnie

Darlene, I am looking forward to seeing you again. It's been a long, long time. I can't believe that we still live so close and both work for the county but we have not run into each other in 35 years!!!! Thelma

Thelma, I know... it's strange. But, maybe we saw each other in passing and just didn't notice each other. I'm sure you've seen Emily - she gets out more than me! Maybe we could do lunch one day. My extension is 2352.
Chuck, Emily and I have connections! If you're serious, let us know.
