Just thinking today about the old days at So Lebanon elementary. Thought I would see if I can remember all of my teachers.. Some of the names I am guessing.. some I am not sure of.. just seems right.. Please correct and/or fill in the blanks if you can.
here goes:
Grade 1 - Mrs White (?)
Grade 2 -
Grade 3 -
Grade 4 -
Grade 5 - Mrs Hatfield
Grade 6 - Mrs Sims (I may have Sims and Hatfield reversed in grades?)
Grade 7 - Mr Redman (remember the day he had an inner ear problem in class, lost his balance ...and had to be escorted out?)
Grade 8 - Mr Gay

Your memory is better than mine. I remember a Mrs COnley and Mrs Bishop. What grades would they be? I have very few memories of elementary,I do remember the candy machine! What about Mr Byrd & Mr & Mrs Smith.

Oh yes.. the candy machine! Remember thos BIG suckers? I think the were available in a variety of flavors.. for 5 cents,.. right?
Mr Byrd was a 7th or 8th grade teacher.. I was not in his class. Mr and Mrs Smith rings a bell.. but I can't place them.
and yes! Mrs Conley.. I am pretty sure that was 2nd grade. Mrs Bishop also rings a bell.. but not sure which grade she taught.

You are too funny Chuck, don't you wish that all of our problems could fade away now if we just had a GIANT SUCKER! I remember clearly the day Pres.Kennedy was killed, a shock & silence, we knew that something was bad wrong.I remember doing cheers on the concrete & I can still smell my favorite lunch- chili with oyster crackers, those choc.cookies & peanut butter sandwiches & do you remember sometimes we would get a big TREAT & the cooks would bring in buttered bread in the afternoon! WOW! Those were the days.I still love chocolate milk! How proud we were when we had cafeteria duty & got to scrape the trays! Thanks for the memories!

Chuck you are right the candy machine was 5 cents… I remember the pretzel and potato sticks, The “Good and Plenty”, and the Carmel round candies with the white sugary center. Carol my favorite lunch was the chili too. Remember when we had to square dance and do the May Pole for after school programs. Our principal was Mr. Johnson, His wife taught 5th or 6th grade. There was a Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Calvert, Mrs. McBeth. I loved music class when Mrs. Gilbert played her Harp. Thanks for taking me back.. So many wonderful memories…like birthday parties with spin the bottle, Christmas Caroling, movies in the big room upstairs, of the older part of the building. Life was so simple . I miss you guys .

Wha was the silly song they use to play for the square dance? I think it was Jimmy Dean singing.. Something about a little book or something..

Just reading and re-reading your post.. brings back memories.. YES..the movies in that big room upstairs in the old part of the building.. They had those big black blinds to cover the windows. The movies were always a special treat. I remember seeing BELL, BOOK and CANDLE up there.

Grade 1 - Mrs. Duff, Grade 2 - Mrs. Conley (she was killed in a car crash years later), Grade 3 - Mrs. Carpenter, Grade 4 - Mrs. Evans (she was mean), Grade 5 - Mrs. Sims (this is where we were when Kennedy was shot. She used to read to us every day after lunch. She was my favorite teacher), Grade 6 - Mrs. Hatfield (she was also the school nurse. She brought the same thing for lunch every day - a cheese sandwich cut in fourths and coffee), Grade 7 - Mr. Ledford (we once had to write, "I will not talk in Mr. Ledford's class...". Do you remember the time he came in with a bright, red circle on his forehead? One of his kids had shot him with a dart gun! Grade 8 - Mr. Gay (he was strange). We also had two other teachers in eighth grade - one was Mr. Moore, and the other I can't remember. I think he taught math. Remember the sports car Mr. Gay had? I can't remember what kind it was, but it was silver. Do you remember how he was dating Miss Lay? We used to say, "If Miss Lay married Mr. Gay, she'd be Mrs. Lay-Gay! Do you remember how he'd snap his fingers? He had every kid in South Lebanon Elementary doing it! I can't remember what happened yesterday, but I can remember all of this! Darlene

Darlene.. thats amazing! You have agreat memory.
I remember Mr Gay's "finger snap" I can still do it.. I also remember his sports car... he had a silver corvette. MR Gay lived right up the street from me (on McKinley) for awhile. I would go up to his house in the morning ..and ride with him to Kings Mills.. to get the school bus.. then back to So Leb.
I must have been in the same class with you all through elementary.. I remember all those teachers. I think the other 8th Grade teacher was Mr Redman (or Redmond).
Remember Mrs Hatfield had those two desks up next to hers.. Not sure if they were for her "pets".. or the mean kids. I remember one of the highlights of the week was getting the "Weekly Reader" magazines. Sometimes she would bang the roll of "readers" on her desk to STOP THE TALKING!

Yes, we did share the same teachers. I have a picture of Mrs. Hatfield - I'll bring it to the reunion. It was so good to see all of those 5th-grade faces again, but some I can't put a name with the face. All you boys were so cute!
