South Lebanon Memories. I think it was Seventh or Eighth grade had a summer school class. It was a test class for teaching Speed reading I think . (But I have slept sense then). But My Byrd was the teacher and I think Thelma's sister (or someones sister) was the teachers aid. The ones I remember in the class was me, Mike Mayfield, Jamey Weekly And I think Shelia Race not sure of the rest. But we had a ball in the class. We where always getting in trouble. We painted a shuffle Board on the floor. It started out as tape but the tape kept coming up. SO we found some finger paint so hey!!! Next thing you know we had a shuffle board. (for one day), then two days of cleaning up the floor . Kicked the volley ball on top the school building. As I remember not to good on the speed reading ;D oh well.

Does anybody remember when they used to set-up the carnival on the street in front of the elementary school? It was during those very early years. My Dad took me on the paratrooper which took us high over the roof of the first grade classes...it scared me to no end. My Mom lost a sandal on the roof; one of the older boys climbed up and retrieved it for her. Everything seemed so large to me then...so right...all was well with the world.

It was usually this time of the year Bonnie. I loved the Ferris wheel myself.
But use to play all the games, and meet friends from school.
There was also the swing ride. That was nice for lots of kids losing their cotton candy if you know what I mean.........
Good Memories

I remember the carnival! It was the greatest thing! Of course all we had to compare it to was Coney Island which we were fortunate to visit maybe once a year! The carnival and the Warren Cty Fair were the big events. But then it was also pretty special to get all cleaned up & dressed in your finest & go down to the Leisure Time Dairy Bar. Life was so simple then,I want to go there! That is was I think is wonderful about Grandchildren. All of a sudden you see the world thru their young eyes again. We took ours to the park in Loveland on Sun. & they thought it was so wonderful to play & wade in the river and then we got a bubble gum flavored icee & walked on the trail a bit. It was great!

I also saved my money for the SL carnival. Loved the swings Gary, but the county fair was my favorite. The band marched. And they had those waffles with powered suger. What was the name of the ride where the floor fell out and you were stuck to the wall. I would slide down so when the floor came back up my knees bent. Loved that ride. E

E Wow, what was the name of that ride? I rode it many times, as a kid, but I tried it once after I had my own kids, and it gave me a terrible headache...my blood pressure probably went to "stroke stage". Does anybody remember the boxed cage swings that you stood up in? It was designed for two people, the object was to swing it hard enough to go a full circle over the top of the platform. Dianne Haley and I really had one going one evening, people were even counting the revolutions; it was great! Your so right Carol, the Grandbabies really keep you in the game. It has become a ritual at the end of each of our visits, that they head for the door with us for that "ride around the block, in the Big Rig", as Camden has learned to call all trucks. The kids live out in the country, so the children sit on our laps, no seat belts, and we drive slowly around the quiet, little neighborhood, pointing out the colors of trucks, dogs, cats, birds, and flowers. Jessica tells us about her friends, and we sing little songs. Then we pull into the drive after several minutes, and Camden shouts, "one mo' time"...and of course, we back out and go again, and again... Finally, Mommy and Daddy come out and insist that the ride is over, to take Memae' and Poppa off the hook. They all stand in the front yard waving, and blowing kisses until we're out of sight. I tell you, it's enough to bring tears to a bowling ball, and it is one of mine and Gil's most favorite things. aaahhh, it's the stuff that memories are made of....
