OK Orville, but someone else might think of another nickname for you! I don't think I can top Thelma's embarassing moments, but I did have a few in school myself! I walked into Mr. Stephenson's class, said good morning to him, then my foot slipped and I fell down! I think I have the world's fastest record in this: Getting up from a seated position! Since I was afraid of the cafeteria too, I was always hungry which sets up my next embarassing moment. We had just settled into Mr. Brown's English Class when my stomach made the most ungodly noise you have ever heard. It was so loud that Thelma heard the noise from across the room and said, "WHAT WAS THAT?" Then, everyone started laughing - me included so that I could mask that it had been me! So if you remember this incident, Thelma, the mystery is solved!

I guess we all must have been afraid of the cafeteria. I kind of wish I hadn't of grown out of that one. Then maybe it would be a little easier to control the weight. I agree that the cafeteria was one of the scariest places in high school. I am glad to hear that everyone was scared and not just me. Wouldn't it be great to live those times over with the wisdom that you find thru age? Bonnie and Carol, I have to admit that I also am guilty of wearing my shortie Pajama bottoms to school. And I thought I was the only one. Glad to hear that we are all human and a little crazy.

Well this has kind of turned into an "embarassing moments" thread.. but that's ok.. Isn't it interesting how our conversations go down various paths? Kind of like "real life"..
Anyway.. Reading your memories,.. brought to surface a painful experience. I had buried deep inside.. hoping to block it out.
Not sure which grade.. but I was in H.S. I had gone to the boys room.. and after my business.. I was unable to close things up again. Yes.. the zipper on my pants had jammed.. and just wasn't going to work. After several minutes.. someone (not sure who) sent out a search party. After discovering the problem.. a teacher was dispatched to try and help.
Mr Goins arrived and worked at the zipper,.. and worked and worked and worked. Get this picture.. I am standing in the boys bathroom.. leaning up against the wall.. my pants halfway down to my knees.. and Mr Goins is kneeling in front of me trying to untangle the zipper.
Guys would come in to use the restroom.. some would laugh.. others tried to act like they didn't see us.. I hated that day!
He never did get the zipper repaired.. I had to spend the rest of the day with safety pins holding my pants together. ...and yes, Bonnie,.. my parents made me return to school the next day.

Well, Chuck, I hope this doesn't sound too insensitive, but I have laughed until I've cried! That might just top Thelma's experiences! Emily, we may all have to get in therapy to get over that cafeteria!

Poor Chuck, I say if you survived that experience you've got it made. I am at the office laughing my head off & disturbing everyone-I DON"T CARE!I laughed so hard during the middle of the night that I had to take a sleeping pill to go back to sleep. I can't wait to see everyone, unfortunately some of these visions are burned in my brain forever now!Probably as soon as we see each other we'll just bust a gut laughing!! Can't wait.

I always liked Mr Goins.. even though I wasn't in band. He was pretty cool.. and he worked part time at a radio station. I was fascinated with radio at that time.. and I remmeber going with him a few times to his weekend job.

Well, that did it, Chuck! So you remember Thelma's gymnasium foopah?... I remember too... I was the one in the row behind her. The earth moved... Now there's the rowdy group I remember... ;D I promised myself an early bedtime tonight; but I have laughed, and cried so hard that I am ready to party. This is too good to read alone, somebody's going to think I'm nuts, sitting here by myself, laughing. I've called Thelma, but the "little duval" has her phone turned off. "Now, who else can I call"?

Tom, Can we fly to Italy with you and Kay in the fall? You know, just to help you celebrate the birth of your grandchild...it's the least we can do. ;D

Darlene, Thelma's a good one to be bringing people out; wouldn't you agree?...I think we all would... It's okay, Emily and Darlene, the cafeteria "was" a scary place. Didn't you notice that all the cooks had the same hair-do? Freaky. They were like "stepford cooks"...you didn't really believe it was hair nets, did you? Emily, I think you, Carol and I should start a "bloomer support group". What do ya say, girls? Chuck, I don't know just how to comfort you (especially when I'm rolling in the floor), but it's okay to seek counseling. See, now this has become a healing place...and, you're among friends, Zip. PS Thel, you mean, you didn't hear the rumors? ssshhh, don't tell Zip.

How have we changed??
Well after I married I have battled the weight monster for many many years. But I do feel good about myself and I am a bit healthier since losing about 65 pounds in the last 3 years. I was very overweight and unhealthy for sure. I had hoped to lose a lot more before the reunion but alas that didn't happen, oh well....
I wasn't into much in High school either, nothing really interested me. I did enjoy all my friends and hoped to keep in touch after HS but of course that didn't happen either. Its such a shame because a lot of us live so close to each other. Hopefully this reunion will draw us closer and we can get together more often.
Embrassing moments? Jeeze I could go on and on. I do remember a few insidents when I didn't make it to the bathroom in time during grade school...sure wish they had depends back then...LOL
BArb (Meadors) who is sure glad to be back here again!
