I talked with Brenda yesterday & we had a good laugh-she has agreed to get on this site and defend herself as soon as she has time. Brenda,Chuck is right,we're just jealous of the finger curls,I never in my life had long hair and now besides short it's very thin.Wonder what would happen if you showed up at the reunion with your STILL LONG hair done in finger curls-I know who's going to have the last laugh(not me).Love ya

This is a good time to jump in here. Darlene you're 1 day older. But as I tell Carol, I'm older but much wiser. Does anyone remember, of course I'm going to tell on myself here, recess in S. Leb. We used to chase each other, get captured and put in the back basement entrance . I sure do remember girls chasing the boys and visa versa.....that playground seemed huge and when I pass by it now I see just how small it actually was. Those were the days huh?? BArb

that playground seemed huge and when I pass by it now I see just how small it actually was. back about 15 years or so ago.. I stopped in SL Elem.. on a trip back to Ohio. They let me walk the halls and look around. I remember the hallway in the upper end (1st, 2nd, 3rd grades) seemed so little.. It felt like I could reach up and touch the ceiling. and the Gym.. I always thought it so big.. it's tiny!

Hello everyone, Carol you did tell me I needed to defend myself and see you're right. Carol call me anytime for advice since I am older and wiser. I feel like the Det. Who Flung Dung who has to store info to defend myself in the next 30 years (if I can remember where I stored it.) Thelma, in a time of innocence I may have told a tall white tale but nothing like "The Color Purple." My Grandma Presley and Dad would be shocked at this and they have been dead for over 30 years and they aren't talking. Bonnie, I did have a twitch in my right leg, but it's gone and I now have nothing to draw on. Darlene, Yes I do forgive you. Change? Grey what grey? And who the hech changed all print to a 2 font? Memory is just a fleeting thing(should have had more basil.) Curls, compliment of my mother. Poker straight now. Speaking of innocence, in the 6th grade Mike Rutherford told me Mom was pregnant. I defended her to the bitter end. Who was I to go to, Mrs. Hatfield? So at recess, on the bottom fields, a circle of friends huddled togehter (not to mention any names Thelma, Bonnie, Carol, Eileen and who knows could be more. This topic was too serious to notice the little things) taught me the facts of life. Thelma, I think you were doing the teaching since you did have one of the first spin the bottle parties; I figured you knew. In a fifteen minute recess I learned all I needed to know. I should've had the birds and bees talk with Mom though. Two months later l she had her 7th child. I stopped drinking all water. After all this its a good thing I returned my check so quickly.

GOOD JOB BRENDA, I told you the other girls were talking-didn't I?? I'm sorry but I don't remember the talk about birds & bees-If it hadn't been for our cat having kittens I wouldn't have known anything. I'm just glad we don't have to lick our babies as soon they're born!!

["I told you the Girls were talking"] Girl, you haven't changed a bit ! You mean...they didn't make you lick your babies?...I'm mad now... Brenda, Please, no false modesty in here; we simply won't allow it. I'll bet you have some twitch left; we'll have to ask John...if you don't own up and show us all at the reunion. You know, of all my memories, I don't remember the "birds and the bees" talk on the playground. I was probably in shock; did any of you notice my eyes glazing over? Were there any other signs...did I need to breathe into a bag, put my head between my knees, run screaming for the girls bathroom...you know, just something subtle? Thelma always did know more than she should; you know how those Italians are? Always running around shouting "Monjah, Monjah",(unfortunately, there's no Italian spellcheck in here) when what they really mean is "MONJAH, MONJAH"! I think that's the reason I liked her so much....it still is. And, now I know Thelma's telling a big whopper! She can't be Oprah's cousin because she's my cousin! (Thelma doesn't get to hog all the ethnic pride.) Can't you see the family resemblance! Do you remember me telling Mr. Ledford, "I get my Ethiopian blood from my mother's side of the family". ? That's one little family joke that back-fired on my Dad, BIG TIME! ;D It cracks me up to this day... One thing I'll bet most of you don't know...Roy Prince and I "really" are cousins; our grandmothers are/were sisters, on my mother's side. Sadly, I haven't seen Roy in many years; it'll be good to see him. By the way, where is Roy, and why hasn't he checked into this site? Rest up folks...you've met your match, and I can't wait to get the game started... ;D

talk about the old town hall theater all the time! We only paid 50cents to watch a movie and popcorn was what a nickle? I remember sitting on that wall waiting to be picked up too.
The movie I remember seeing was Parent trap with Haley Mills, now I thought there were really two of her.
The skating rink was my second home, a Saturday didn't go by that I didn't go skating there. I couldn't skate worth a crap but that didn't stop me, I could stand up and make it around the rink and thats about it.

I loved the skating rink. Remember the Saturday and Sunday afternoons they had the penny toss and if you got the right one you got a free coke or things like that.

Yes, I remember Gary. My older sister, Sue and I were at the skating rink two and three times a week. Tuesday night was ladies night, the gals got in free, and since we had our own skates, it was a free evening. Saturday night we would skate, and then stay for the dance. Often we went on Sunday afternoons, and then would stay to play hockey. Ray, the owner of the rink, used to call Sue and I, " Big and Little Abby".I had actually become a pretty good skater; of course, my center of gravity was, shall we say,...more centered. The last time I went skating, my youngest daughter was about 8 years old. We were skating around the rink together, and she caught her skate against mine, and....well, you know the rest. :-/Nothing broken, but my pride was awfully bruised. We used to rent the local skating rink for a couple of hours, and let the kids invite everybody they wanted; I monitored the music, and the kids (and grown-ups) would wear costumes at Halloween. It was great! One year I burned my sewing machine up making Gil a Zorro costume, he put it on grudgingly. Within the first 20 minutes of our arrival at the skating rink, he suddenly remembered something he had forgotten at home. When he returned, he had changed out of his Zorro costume, that I had worked so hard on. I asked him why he had changed, and he said very emphatically, "Darlene, who ever heard of a 250 lb Zorro"?! ;D

I remember the skating rink.. I used to go quite a bit. I got pretty good at skating.
A few years ago.. one of Brenda's sisters had a birthday party for our niece.. at a roller rink. I hadn't been on skates in about 30 years.. but I thought I would give it a shot. I discovered it isn't a talent that stays with you. If you don't use it.. you lose it.
